“A Single Firefly”

There is a single firefly

flashing in the field tonight

Blinking slow and steady,

watching for an answer back

He is up high now,

waiting for a flash from someone out there

Hoping to see his family's constellation

I know that feeling well

Standing alone in a fresh mown field

There is a tingling in my fingertips

A world in me asking to be unmasked

I am a tin can cracked open

A violent light

And I'm looking far

Calling back all the lost fireflies separated in the dark
